The Indian football team went down 0- to Asian champions Qatar in a joint qualifying tournament for the 2023 Asian Cup and the 2022 World Cup. Abdel Aziz’s goal in the 33rd minute became the difference between both teams. India is on 105 in World rankings while Qatar is at a strong 58th position still India managed to withstand the Asian powerhouse with pride and confidence.
India faced a huge blow in the 15th minute when Rahul Bheke was showed a red card after a controversial handball earned him a second yellow card and he was forced to leave the pitch. After that, the defence performed exceptionally well while Gurpreet made some great saves that maintained India’s until the very end but they couldn’t score the equaliser even after pushing so hard.
India managed to draw a game with Qatar in the last fixture that is one of their best performance in recent time. India was supposed to play the game at home but was forced to play in Doha after this was selected as a neutral ground keeping in mind the COVID-19 pandemic situation. India will be playing their next game against Bangladesh on June 7 and against Afghanistan on June 15 to strengthen their chances to qualify for the 2023 Asian cup.
