14-year old teenager, Atletico Madrid fan dies in post match celebration

A 14-year-old boy died on Sunday during the celebration of Atletico Madrid winning the La Liga title this season in the Spanish capital, Madrid. It is said that this incident happened when his head hit against the wall of an underground car park and he succumbed to a brain injury in a van with his friends.

Around 2,000 fans had gathered around Neptune Fountain for the celebration. The traditional venue for the celebration which was the monument had been closed due to the COVID-19 restrictions. Fans have been saying that they will be celebrating the win with full attention and always following the COVID-19 protocol.

This is the 11th title in the history of Atletico Madrid, they last won the title in 2014. The Diego Simeone led side played beautiful football and won the title race against their city rivals, Real Madrid who came in the second position, Barcelona came third after a disappointing second half of the season. Luis Suarez who came from Barcelona in a €7 million transfer was an integral part of their success this season and were the favorites to win the league this season. They have also organized a parade on Sunday for their fans while following the Coronavirus regulations that the Spanish govt has imposed in the capital city of Madrid.
