20-year-old Gujarati origin woman part of Israel Defence Force

On the early hours of Wednesday, the Israeli army bombed the Gaza Strip, nearly a month after a ceasefire was declared between Palestinian Militia group Hamas and the IDF (Israel Defence Forces).

Nitsha Muliyasha, is a 20-year-old girl, who belongs to a Gujarati family which originally hails from Kothari, which is a small village near Rajkot in Gujarat. Nitsha is the first person of a Gujarati origin to be inducted into the army, her family has been settled in Tel Aviv for years. In Israel over 45 Gujarati families reside, and most of them have been involved in the diamond trade.

Zivabhai Muliyasa, father of Nitsha, said that she was inducted two years ago into the IDF as a part of country’s conscription system which made it mandatory for all the citizens above 18 to serve the army. The Israel’s education system inculcates leadership qualities in the children. He mentioned about the stationing of his daughter, and said that she had been stationed at the borders of Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Egypt in the past two years. And as of now she was stationed at Gush Dan, which is the combat location from where the Israeli Forces are attacking Hamas in Gaza.

He also mentioned that she works for eight hours a day but sometimes she works for the whole day and also does after-work-hour duties. The proud father also said that she has been really committed to her work. And they only meet her during weekends, but that also happens once in a few months.

After the 2.4 year tenure of Nitsha with the Army ends, she would be required to sign an agreement for a period of five to ten years, during which she can enrol in engineering, medicine, or any other course of her choice and qualifications. Her father also mentioned that the army would bear the entire cost of her education.
