Tej Pratap Yadav offers Rs 11 lakh to Rajpal Yadav after actor sent to Tihar jail in rs 9 crore debt case

Actor Rajpal Yadav made news a few days ago when it was reported that the Delhi High Court declined to grant him relief in his cheque-bounce cases, forcing him to surrender. Actors Sonu Sood and Gurmeet Choudhury expressed their willingness to assist Rajpal Yadav at this trying period. Tej Pratap Yadav, president of Janshakti Janata Dal (JJD), has given a financial support of ₹11 lakh for the actor.

Tej Pratap took to his X account and wrote in Hindi, “I just received information about the pain of the family of the honorable Rajpal Yadav ji through the post of my elder brother Rao Inderjeet Yadav ji. In this extremely difficult time, I and my entire JJD (Jan Shakti Janata Dal) family stand in complete empathy and solidarity with their grieving family. With a spirit of human compassion and support, on behalf of the JJD family, I am providing financial assistance of ₹11,00,000 (eleven lakh rupees) to their family.

Rajpal’s troubles started in 2010 when he borrowed ₹5 crore from Delhi-based Murali Projects Pvt Ltd for his directorial debut, Ata Pata Laapata (2012). The film’s box office failure prompted a debt dilemma, prompting a court battle in which a Magisterial Court convicted him and his wife, Radha, under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act in April 2018. After seven cheques provided to the complainant bounced, the actor was sentenced to six months in simple jail, a decision upheld by a Sessions Court in early 2019.

In June 2024, the court gave temporary respite by deferring his sentence and requiring him to take “sincere and genuine measures” to settle the outstanding dues, which amounted to roughly ₹9 crore. However, this was quickly followed by a repeating trend of missed deadlines and unfulfilled promises. In October 2025, Yadav submitted ₹75 lakh with two demand drafts, but the majority of the responsibility remained outstanding.

This month, Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma ordered the actor to surrender, stating that leniency cannot be offered indefinitely to anyone, regardless of celebrity status. On February 4, 2026, the court denied a last-minute “mercy plea” for a one-week delay to arrange finances, citing Rajpal’s failure to honour nearly 20 previous undertakings.
