30 people lost their lives and 50 remained injured when two trains collided in Pakistan’s southern Sindh Province today, as per a report by officials. A train headed from Lahore to Karachi, Sir Syed Express collided with the derailed Millat Express which was on it’s way to Sargodha from Karachi, as reported by the Dawn news.

The serious accident took place near Dharki, a city located in the Ghotki district of upper Sindh, in which bogies of the Millat Express train overturned. For tackling the same, Hospitals in Ghotki, Obaro, Mirpur, Mathelo and Dharki have declared an emergency.

At least 30 people have been killed while 50 are left injured in the incident, as informed by Usman Abdullah, Ghotki Deputy Commissioner. Difficulties were also faced by the officials while rescuing those trapped in the overturned bogies. Six to eight bogies were completely destroyed while 13 to 14 bogies were derailed in the accident. As per his statement, rescuing the trapped passengers from the overturned bogies is a challenge for the rescue officials. In order to cushion the situation a relief train has been departed from Rohri, he added.

It will take some time to make use of heavy machinery for rescuing the citizens trapped in the bogies. Till then, medical camps are to be established which will facilitate medical aid to the citizens. Although rescue and relief officials have rushed to the spot, authorities fear that there could be a rise in the number of fatalities in the accident.
