
On Friday, a 30-year-old woman tried to kill herself by laying beside the tracks at Badlapur Railway Station in Thane district of Maharashtra. The police said that she survived miraculously even though the train had passed the platform. The police officer said that the woman was a mother of a 3-year-old child and was mentally unstable.
Kalyan GRP inspector Walmik Shardul told the reporters that the woman laid down near the railway tracks below the platform of the Badlapur railway station on Friday morning. The Udyan Express passed the platform at 09:30 am but the woman survived without any harm or scratch. The train guard when noticed the woman, the train had halted just before the last bogie was passing the tracks.
The inspector also mentioned that it was her mere luck that she survived, however the woman was later reunited with her family. The woman’s mother said that her daughter was mentally unstable and that she left the house without informing anyone on the morning of Friday.
In the year of 2019, the Western Railway Mumbai division recorded 828 deaths on the tracks. Out of these 32 were registered as suicides and over the same year the number of deaths on tracks fell down by 50 per cent, however 43 of those numbers were still suicides.
