According to reports, performers Harry Styles, Elton John, and Adele declined invitations to play during King Charles III’s planned coronation festivities.

According to a Wednesday Rolling Stone article, The Spice Girls and Robbie Williams are among the other performers that have turned down requests to perform at the May gala.

A spokesman for Elton John told the magazine that the 75-year-old was unable to attend owing to schedule conflicts, however most of the performers declined to explain why they would not perform.

A request for comment from Page Six was not immediately answered by the musicians’ representatives.

The “PR catastrophes” that have afflicted the monarchy, according to some royal experts, are the reason why musicians don’t want to play.

“The royal family has faced a number of PR disasters in recent times, and anyone performing at the show would have to consider whether there would be a backlash from appearing amongst their fans,” Simon Jones, a publicist for Little Mix, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson, told Rolling Stone.
