Stress manifests in several ways, including poor sleep, irritability, and digestive disorders. If you feel your skin becoming dry, red, or otherwise irritating, you may be dealing with a different type of stress.
Dermatologists suggest that stress can affect the skin, the body’s largest organ, and that it may reflect feelings of nervousness and anxiety. They emphasise the importance of both inner and outside work in addressing skin tension and provide practical tips for managing it.
Signs of stressed skin
According to doctors, the main cause of stressed skin is a hormone called cortisol. Excessive cortisol levels from work stress, lack of sleep, or personal concerns can have a harmful impact on the body, despite its importance in survival.
1. Acne or greasy skin
If you see more whiteheads and blackheads during stressful work weeks or after long days of travel, realise that stress could be the cause.
2. Accelerated indications of ageing
Stress can cause your skin to appear older than it is. Prolonged stress can cause accelerated ageing of the skin, including fine lines, wrinkles, and laxity.
3. Redness, flakiness, hives, and itching
As the deadline approaches, you may detect redness or flakiness in the mirror. Redness occurs when superficial veins in the dermis dilate, giving the skin a pink or red tint. Doctors agree that this is another example of your body transferring its emotions onto your skin.
4. Frequent acne or psoriasis flare-ups
Individuals with acne or psoriasis may experience worsening symptoms during stressful situations, such as at work or home. High cortisol levels can disrupt the immune function system, generating inflammatory responses in the skin that increase psoriasis and acne, among other medical conditions. Increased inflammation causes redness ,flakiness, and itching.
5. Cold sores
Cold sores, which are painful sores that appear on the lips and mouth, are also more common during stressful times.
If you see these signs do not ignore and take some time out for yourself. Set back for a while and let your skin and brain relax.
