Five terrorists were killed in an ongoing encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam area on Friday, police said. The operation is in the final stage, according to the police, who added that the identity of the killed terrorist is being ascertained.
“Day 2: Five terrorists neutralized by Kulgam Police, Army, and CRPF. Incriminating materials were recovered. Operation in the final stage; area being sanitized,” the Kashmir Zone Police penned in a post on X.
The police had earlier affirmed that heavy fire was still being fired between security forces and the terrorists across the border.
According to Jammu and Kashmir Police, the encounter occurred on Thursday afternoon in the Samno pocket in the DH Pora region of Kulgam district.
The Army’s 34 Rashtriya Riffles, 9 Para (elite special forces unit), police and the CRPF are also involved in the joint operation against the terrorists. During the night, the village was further surrounded and lights were installed near the encounter site.
Earlier, an infiltration attempt was thwarted along the Line of Control in the Uri Sector on November 15, Wednesday, the army stated.
During a joint operation named “Operation Kali,” the army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police neutralized the infiltrators.
