The Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 was a military confrontation between India’s Mitro bahini forces and Pakistan that occurred during the Bangladesh Liberation War in Bangladesh from 3 December 1971 to the autumn of Dacca (Dhaka) on 16 December 1971. Operation Chengiz Khan’s preemptive aerial strike on 11 Indian air stations began the war, which later led to commencement of hostilities with Pakistan and India’s entry into war for Bangladesh’s independence on the side of Bengali nationalist forces. Lasting just 13 days, it’s one among the shortest wars in history within the process, it also become a part of the nine months long Bangladesh Liberation War.
By the top of April 1971, Prime Minister Gandhi had asked the Indian Army chief General Sam Manekshaw if he was able to attend war with Pakistan. consistent with Manekshaw’s own personal account, he refused, citing the onset of monsoon season in Bangladesh and also the very fact that the military tanks were being refitted. He offered his resignation, which Gandhi declined. He then said he could guarantee victory if she would allow him to organize for the conflict on his terms, and set a date for it Gandhi accepted his conditions. Actually, Gandhi was cognizant of the difficulties of a hasty action , but she needed to urge the military’s views to satisfy her hawkish colleagues and therefore the popular opinion, which were critical of India’s restraint.
