660 additional trains including 108 holiday specials approved by the Indian Railways

To cushion migrant labourers travel and clearing the waiting list in origin destinations amid the declining number of cases of COVID-19 across the nation, the operation of additional 660 trains including 108-holiday specials have been approved by the Indian Railways in various zones.

As of Friday, around 983 trains on track daily, which is around 56 per cent of the pre-COVID level and before the pandemic, an average of around 1768 mail or express trains were being operated every day, as mentioned by the Indian Railways in a statement. As per commercial justification and demand, the number of trains is being enhanced gradually, it added.

Keeping given the demand for tickets, the COVID-19 situation in the region and the local conditions, it has been advised to the zonal railways to restore trains in a graded manner. While several earlier cancelled trains due to poor patronage are announced to be restored by the Southern railway from next week.

Between Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur and Ernakulam in Kerala, two pairs of summer special trains will also be run by the North Eastern Railways. On 19th and 26th June at 8:30 am, the Gorakhpur Ernakulam Special Fare Summer Special will leave Gorakhpur and reach Ernakulam at 2:30 pm on the third day. On 21st June and 28th June, while coming back, the special train will leave Ernakulam at 11:55 pm and reach Gorakhpur at 6:30 am on the fourth day. In the Silchar-Coimbatore sector, the weekly special trains will run from 22nd June.
