9 transport union observe bus strike today in Tamil Nadu

Nine transport union in Tamil Nadu will observe an indefinite strike, starting today. The strike is over demands for wage revision demands. Transport employees, comprising mechanics, supervisors, drivers, and conductors did not operate buses on Thursday.

According to reports, the strike involves over one lakh transport employees, which affects over 80% of bus services. The buses in the south of the state are being operated by temporary drivers and Anna Trade Union drivers.

Metropolitan Transport Corporation(MTC), Labour Progressive Federation (LPF), Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), Hind Mazdoor Sabha (HMS), and All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) are also part of the strike. The DMK has also shown support to the trade unions.

The strike is to pressurize the government as the state budget is to be announced.
