Astad Deboo: “contemporary in vocabulary and traditional in restraints”

Died on December 09, 2020 at the age of 73 years with a dancing career that lasted over 48 years with performances in over 72 countries which includes solo, group and collaborative choreography with performing artists around the globe. He has worked significantly with the deaf, he challenged these youth to achieve his signature meditative and minimalist approach. He recognized them as artists and built their self-confidence.

Astad Deboo has won two prestigious Government of India Awards :

(i) Padmashree in 2017

(ii)Sangeet Natak Academy Award in 1995
