Wimbledon 2023: Nick Kyrgios pulls out of tournament due to wrist injury

A year after reaching his first Grand Slam final at the All England Club, Nick Kyrgios has withdrawn from Wimbledon the night before the event begins, citing a wrist injury. Wimbledon confirmed his withdrawal on Sunday night and Kyrgios shared about it on social media. Kyrgios was seeded 30th in the men’s bracket and was set to take on David Goffin on Monday. Kyrgios will be replaced on the court by a player who failed to qualify.

Taking to his Instagram story, Kyrgios penned, “I’m really sad to say that I have to withdraw from Wimbledon this year. During my comeback, I experienced some pain in my wrist during Mallorca. As a precaution I had it scanned and it came back showing a torn ligament in my wrist,” He added, “I tried everything to be able to play and I am disappointed to say that I just didn’t have enough time to manage it before Wimbledon.”

Kyrgios has only played one game this season, having missed the Australian Open due to an injured left knee that required arthroscopic surgery. The 28-year-old Australian already missed the French Open and now health issues will force him to miss each of the year’s first 3 major competitions with big stages and bright lights he seems to like the most.
