A Delhi court on Friday took cognisance of Delhi Police’s chargesheet in the sexual harassment case filed by women wrestlers against BJP’s MP and Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and summoned him on July 18.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Harjeet Singh Jaspal of the Rouse Avenue Courts also issued summons to Vinod Tomar, the assistant secretary of WFI, who was earlier suspended.
Six female wrestlers have accused the Singh of sexual harassment. Based on their complaints, the police have filed a First Information Report (FIR).
On June 15, 2023, the police filed a chargesheet against Singh under IPC sections 354, 354A, 354D, and 506.
Earlier, several wrestlers had staged a protest over the failure of the authorities to act on the accusation of sexual harassment against Singh. They had also moved Supreme Court to file FIR against Singh.
It was then informed by Delhi police to Supreme Court that the FIR has been filed an investigation is underway.
A minor wrestler had also accused Singh of sexual harassment, however, she had later withdrew her complaint and the Delhi police filed a cancellation report in that case.
