Wimbledon 2023: Rohan Bopanna-Matthew Ebden knocked out in semi-finals

Rohan Bopanna of India and Matthew Ebden of Australia were knocked out from the men’s doubles tournament at Wimbledon on Thursday after losing to top seeds Wesley Koolhof of the Netherlands and Neal Skupsk of Great Britain in straight sets in the semi-finals in London.

Regardless of their best efforts, Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden fell short 5-7, 4-6 after a one-hour, twenty-six-minute struggle.

Bopanna and Ebden, the sixth seed in the competition, had an outstanding journey. In the quarterfinals, they defeated Tallon Griekspoor and Bart Stevens of the Netherlands by scores of 6-7(3), 7-5, and 6-2 after falling behind a set.

While this was an outstanding performance for Bopanna, it fell short of his aim of being the Open Era’s oldest Grand Slam champion in singles, doubles and mixed doubles.

Bopanna, the only Indian in Wimbledon, reached the Australian Open final in mixed doubles with Sania Mirza earlier this year.

Also, Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden have won 2 ATP titles in men’s doubles. Bopanna made his third appearance in a Wimbledon quarterfinal, with his previous one occurring in 2015.

He made it to the men’s doubles semifinals of four Grand Slam tournaments overall, with his best result being the runner-up position at the 2010 US Open.
