Daniil Medvedev was easily defeated by Carlos Alcaraz in three sets of 6-3 6-3 6-3, giving the impression that he was in complete control of the match.
Alcaraz dominated the match right away as he continued to tease Medvedev. Medvedev was forced to sprint from end to end because of Alcaraz’s forehand speed, which simply proved to be too much for him to handle.
Alcaraz aims to become the third-youngest player to win the Wimbledon men’s singles title in the Open Era after reaching his first Wimbledon final.
The 36-year-old seven-time winner Novak Djokovic, who earlier on Centre Court easily defeated Italian Jannik Sinner to advance to his 35th Grand Slam final, will now take on the 20-year-old phenomenon in the blockbuster final.
Djokovic, who defeated Alcaraz in the French Open semifinals last month, is aiming for a record-tying eighth Wimbledon title in an effort to surpass Margaret Court’s all-time record of 24 Grand Slam victories and become the oldest men’s champion.
The Serbian hasn’t lost on Centre Court in ten years, but Alcaraz is up for the challenge.
“Everybody knows it’s going to be really difficult but I will fight, I will believe that I can beat him here,” the reigning U.S. Open champion said on court.
“It will be tough but I’m ready for this. I dreamed of this since I started to play tennis, to play in a final here. It’s not time to be afraid, I will go for it.”
