Chelsea beat Wrexham 5-0 in preseason friendly

Premier League giants Chelsea started their pre-season tour in the United States of America with a 5-0 victory against Wrexham.

The Blues, led by new manager Mauricio Pochettino, won the Florida Cup at Kenan Memorial Stadium with goals from Ian Maatsen, Conor Gallagher, Christopher Nkunku and Ben Chilwell.

Chelsea didn’t take long to open the scoring, as Maatsen finished off a well-crafted play by new recruit Nicholas Jackson, who made his way through the crowd before releasing the ball at the best time to put it on a platter for the 21-year-old Dutchman.

The Dutch attacker doubled Chelsea’s lead before halftime, finishing off a neat exchange just outside the box in the 42nd minute to give the Blues an advantage.

Chelsea had to wait until late in the second half to score their 3rd goal, which was scored by Gallagher in the 80th minute of play after Englishman Raheem Sterling danced around the defence and set the ball for the former Crystal Palace player to put it home with a controlled shot from outside the box.

Nkunku, the Blues’ latest most-discussed signing, beat the goalkeeper and finished cleanly to give London 4 goals advantage.

English centre-back Chilwell put the final touches on a comfortable win for Pochhettino and  Co, scoring deep in second period extra time to secure a victory.
