Canadian rapper Tory Lanez sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting Megan Thee Stallion

Tory Lanez, a Canadian rapper, was sentenced to ten years in prison on Tuesday, more than 7 months after he was found guilty of killing fellow shooting Megan Thee Stallion during an argument in 2020.

The 30-year-old rapper, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was sentenced by Judge David Herriford at a hearing in Los Angeles Superior Court that had been pushed back by delays.

On December 23, a jury found Lanez guilty of assault with a semiautomatic handgun, carrying a loaded, unregistered handgun in a vehicle and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.

Lanez has been charged with shooting Grammy-winning rapper Megan Thee Stallion, 28, and injuring her feet after a pool party in the Hollywood Hills in July 2020.

She told the court during the two-week trial that the shooting had been caused by a heated argument that started when the two started criticizing each other’s musical careers.

Megan Thee Stallion, also known as Megan Pete, needed surgery and stayed in the hospital for four days before being able to walk again with the help of physical therapy.

In 2021, Megan Thee Stallion won Grammys for best rap performance, best rap song and best new artist. The rapper has also received six other nominations.
