WhatsApp gets screen-sharing feature for video calls; Here’s everything you need to know

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, has introduced a new WhatsApp feature which enables users to share their screen during a video call. The feature is cross-platform compatible, allowing users to quickly show a live view of their screen to one or more persons on the call.

“Whether sharing documents for work, browsing photos with family, planning a vacation or shopping online with friends, or just helping grandparents with tech support – screen sharing lets you share a live view of your screen during the call,” reads WhatsApp’s press release.

Users must have the most recent versions of WhatsApp installed in order to use the function. During a video call, a new ‘Share’ icon will appear at the bottom of the screen. They will be asked to grant screen share access by tapping on it. The other party’s screen will then be streamed to them.

Please keep in mind that this feature is being rolled out in a phased manner. Some people would need to wait a bit longer while others may have already seen it on WhatsApp.

For video calls, the feature also supports landscape mode. This is important when sharing the screen from desktop platforms to provide a more wide and complete viewing experience.
