Director Antoine Fuqua describes how Michael would chronicle the musician’s life, despite the fact that the multiple Grammy winner is as controversial as he is admired. Fuqua, famous for his many collaborations with Denzel Washington, said in early 2023 that he would be working on a Michael Jackson biography with Oscar-winning producer Graham King, who previously addressed the music biographical genre with 2018’s Bohemian Rhapsody. The cast of Michael as Jackson, which will be led by the musician’s real nephew Jaafar Jackson, is expected to begin shooting later this year.
Antoine Fuqua recently spoke with Good Morning America on The Equalizer 3’s upcoming release. In terms of future projects, the director/producer shared an update on his Michael Jackson biopic, including how he and his crew would document the controversial musician’s life, promising that they will “tell the facts as know it”, including “the good, the bad, and the ugly.” He said, “He was a great artist. He was human. We’re gonna show the good, bad, and the ugly. We’re just going to tell Michael based on the facts that I have. Me and Graham King, the producer of Bohemian Rhapsody, we’re going to tell the facts that we have, and it’s for the audience to make a decision on how they feel about Michael, but we’re going to tell the facts as we know it.”
