The release date of “The Exorcist: Believer” has been pushed back a week to avoid competition with Taylor Swift’s concert film, according to the horror movie’s producer, Jason Blum, who confirmed the news on social media Thursday.
Blum announced the new Oct. 6 release date on X, formerly known as Twitter, with the hashtag #TaylorWins. Both “The Exorcist: Believer” and Swift’s concert film based on her hit “The Eras” tour had been scheduled for release on October 13.
Fans called the upcoming double release “Exorswift” on social media, however, the potential of “Swifties” overshadowing the demonic movie, the sixth instalment in “The Exorcist” franchise, proved too powerful.
“Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” broke advance sales records on the first day of presales for the concert film, with AMC, the film’s distributor, claiming $26 million in sales on Friday.
The film “shattered records for single-day advance ticket sales revenue at AMC,” according to the company statement. The previous record was held by “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” which Swift broke in under three hours, AMC revealed.
Soon after Swift announced the film, AMC reported that they had increased server capacity in anticipation of increasing ticket demand. To fulfil demand, the chain announced that all AMC theatres nationwide will screen the movie four times a day on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
