Bob Barker’s cause of death revealed after ‘The Price Is Right’ host dies at 99

Longtime “The Price is Right” host Bob Barker passed away due to Alzheimer’s disease, as per numerous reports. According to Entertainment Tonight, People magazine and ABC7, the cause of death for the 99-year-old television star on Aug. 26 was Alzheimer’s. The news was first reported by TMZ.

As reported by People, the document revealed Barker had Alzheimer’s for “years.” According to ET and ABC7, contributing factors included hypertension, hypothyroidism and hyperlipidemia.

Roger Neal, Barker’s publicist, informed USA TODAY of Barker’s demise in August, saying in a statement, “It is with profound sadness that we announce that the World’s Greatest MC who ever lived, Bob Barker, has left us.”

Barker was named TV’s Most Durable Performer twice by Guinness World Records; he hosted “The Price is Right” from 1972 to 2007.

Last week, CBS paid tribute to its former host with a primetime special titled “The Price is Right: A Tribute to Bob Barker.” Drew Carey, who replaced Barker as host of “The Price is Right,” hosted the special.

“Very sad day for the Price Is Right family, and animal lovers all over the world,” Carey wrote about Barker’s demise on X, formerly Twitter. “There hasn’t been a day on set that I didn’t think of Bob Barker and thank him. I will carry his memory in my heart forever.”

Barker won 18 Daytime Emmys and a Daytime Emmy Award for lifetime achievement in 1999. He was inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame in early 2004.
