Kate Winslet reflects on being body-shamed early in her career

Unfortunately, Kate Winslet is one of numerous stars who have faced weight-related criticisms during their careers. When Kate first appeared on the scene in the early 1990s, she was considered curvier than many of her female counterparts, leading to tabloid speculation and criticism.

The Titanic star recently opened up about what it was like to be fat-shamed so early in her career and she has a message for everyone who criticized her weight.

Winslet, 47, stated in her October Vogue cover story, which was released on Monday, September 11, that “I was consistently told I was the wrong shape. was consistently told I would have to settle for less.”

The mother of three says there is a bright side to the bullying she endured since it made her stronger and not willing to “take that s—t from anyone” from anybody. “I think it probably stems from having been subjected to the most awful scrutiny and judgment, and, actually, I would go so far as to say bullying, from mainstream media when I was in my 20s.”

She also addressed the #MeToo movement, stating it has made future generations of actresses less fearful to speak up and push back against negative norms and practices in the entertainment industry.

“Young actresses now — f—k me — they are unafraid. It makes me so proud,” Kate said. She also added, “And I think, Yes, all the s—t flinging, all the struggle, all the using my voice for years, often being finger-pointed at and laughed at — I don’t give a s—t!”

“It was all bloody worth it,” the actress concluded. “Because the culture is changing in the way that I couldn’t in my wildest dreams have imagined in my 20s.”
