Ice Spice has talked about the controversy surrounding The 1975’s frontman, Matty Healy, and the racially insulting comments made about her during a February podcast appearance. In her most recent interview with Variety, Ice Spice addressed Healy’s public apologies during a concert as well as a private outreach.
In her response to the podcast remarks, Ice Spice expressed her confusion and stated that the humor did not align with her own sensibilities. She addressed the use of phrases like “chubby Chinese lady.”
At a recent Jean Paul Gaultier party, Ice Spice said she came across Matty Healy, who asked about her well-being. Healy took the opportunity to apologize several times, which resulted in a resolution between the two artists. The rapper stated, “He was like, ‘Hey, you OK?’ and I’m like, ‘Of course.’ He apologized to me a bunch of times. We’re good.” Healy’s decision to put a clip from the podcast appearance in a promotional video for The 1975’s forthcoming North American tour appears to have been influenced by this interaction.
