From Apong to Chura Sabji ; Top 5 popular Arunachal Pradesh delicacies, you should try!

Northeastern Indian state Arunachal Pradesh shares many similarities with other states in the region when it comes to the importance of its traditions and culture to Indian travel. Food is a fundamental component of North East Indian culture, and since it satisfies a traveler’s curiosity about the foreign, Arunachal Pradesh’s cuisine is a hot topic! The first thing to be aware of is that the cuisine of Arunachal Pradesh varies from tribe to tribe.

1. Apong

It is simply another term for rice beer, which is one of the most significant traditional drinks in Arunachal Pradesh and plays a significant role in the local cuisine. If you prefer a little light beer to the typical strong commercialised one, this home-brewed beer is light on the palate and free of additives.

2. Pehak

Another delicious side dish from Arunachal Pradesh is pehak. Fermented soy beans and chilli are used to make pehak, a form of hot chutney. The primary component in this dish—the chilly, of course, being the King chilly—is what gives it its fiery and spicy flavour. This spicy, acidic mash combined with the flavour of flavoured rice makes for an amazing dish!

3. Rice

In Arunachal Pradeshi cuisine, rice is the main course, with all other foods serving as sides. The most significant and distinctive feature of their rice is that, in order to give it a flavour distinct from other varieties, the people of Arunachal like to cook it inside hollow bamboo over hot coals.

4. Pika Pila

The Apatani tribe in Arunachal Pradesh is primarily responsible for producing the well-known pickle known as pika pila. In Arunachal Pradesh, it’s a staple cuisine side dish. A particular kind of pickle called pika Pila is created with hog fat, bamboo shoots, and a tiny bit of King Chilly. Although it’s hot, it’s not so spicy as to make you queasy.

5. Chura Sabji

This curry-like dish is created with fermented cheese, which can be made from cow’s milk or yak milk. What gives it its unique flavour is the addition of King chilli flakes and a few pieces, which give it a spicy yet wonderful taste.
