Amid speculations that Pakistan skipper Babar Azam’s captaincy future is in doubt, it has been reported that the Pakistan Cricket Board is planning to fire its whole group of foreign support staff members. As reported by Samaa TV, a well-known Pakistani news channel, Pakistan head coach Grant Bradburn, team director Mickey Arthur and batting coach Andrew Puttick are all set to be fired following the team’s poor performance in the World Cup 2023 in India. According to the report, PCB head Zaka Ashraf would conduct an emergency meeting with former captain Younis Khan on Tuesday to announce the decision.
The board plans to conduct a review of Pakistan’s poor performance in the tournament, in which they failed to qualify for the semi-finals after losing 5 of their nine league matches. Pakistan came in fifth place in the points table with 8 points. Notably, Pakistan failed to advance past the group stages for the second time in a row. Even at the 2015 World Cup in Australia, they were eliminated in the quarter-finals.
Pakistan, who were the No.1-ranked ODI team not too long ago, also failed to advance to the finals of this year’s Asia Cup. The poor performance in the two important multi-nation tournaments is said to be the primary cause for the major changes that are about to happen in Pakistan cricket.
