Aaron Finch, former Australia captain, has announced his retirement from the Big Bash League (BBL) following a 13-season career with the Melbourne Renegades.
Finch retired from international cricket in February 2023, but was still a player of the BBL team for the ongoing season. Despite being in the team, the former Australian captain has not played for the Renegades in the past couple of matches and announced ahead of the game against the Hobart Hurricanes that this would be his final BBL season.
According to cricket.com.au, Finch stated that he has enjoyed every second of his time with the Renegades and that their title victory remains a great experience for him. The former captain also expressed gratitude for having spent his whole BBL career with the Renegades.
“There’ve been some real lows but great highs, and I’ve loved every bit of the journey. No moment can compare to winning the BBL title, that for me was very special and something I’ll remember,” Finch said.
“I’m proud to have played at the one club for the entirety of my career.”
Finch has a long history with the Renegades. Finch has been with the squad since day one, appearing in 106 games and hitting 3311 runs. Both of these achievements are Renegades club records.
