Monkeypox Outbreak: Will there be another global lockdown?

There are growing tension around the world, about the probability of another global lockdown as global health authorities keep a tight eye on the increasing cases of Monkeypox, often known as Mpox. It is a serious concern whether the COVID-19 situation could recur given how quickly the disease is spreading throughout African countries.

The first case of mpox was discovered in London in 2022, and it has since become a serious worldwide health threat. The illness may be dangerous, as evidenced by the 450 deaths it has been reported in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Mpox has been formally labelled a global health emergency by the WHO due to its rapid spread beyond the Congo and the terrible effects it has on individuals who are affected.

Concerning the current Mpox outbreak, researcher from the WHO Dr. Hans Kluge has issued serious concerns. Because of the variant’s high death rate of 10–11%, serious concerns have been raised. Nonetheless, Dr. Kluge gave comfort, saying that even with this strain’s severity, the world community has the resources and expertise needed to effectively stop the spread of Mpox. Additionally, he reaffirmed that there are no present intentions to impose a lockdown because of Mpox.

Dr. Kluge said it is unlikely that the new monkeypox type will cause another worldwide lockdown when asked about the possibility. Concerns are still quite high even though there have been a few cases in Europe since the epidemic in Africa. However, he did convey confidence in the ability to stop the spread of mpox through group activities.

Fever, skin rashes, swelling lymph nodes, and exhaustion are the typical signs and symptoms of mpox, which typically show up 3 to 17 days after infection is spread. People who already have health issues or have been in close touch with an infected person are most vulnerable to the sickness. Usually, the hands, feet, and mouth are affected by the mpox.
