Man-eater wolves attack 25 people in Uttar Pradesh; kills seven

On Thursday, the forest department successfully detained one of the killer wolves, bringing the total number of wolves trapped to four, with two still on the loose.

A bunch of man-eater wolves has been causing restless nights for around 50,000 people living in 25 to 30 villages in the Hardi area of Mahsi Tehsil, Bahraich district, Uttar Pradesh. Over the last 45 days, the stray man-eater wolves have reportedly killed seven individuals, including six children and one lady, while injuring over 25 others. On Thursday, the forest department successfully trapped one of the deadly wolves, bringing the total to four. However, two man-eater wolves are still on the loose, giving the locals nightmares.

In order to locate the surviving wolves, the UP Forest Department and district administration have sent out more than 250 employees, including 150 forest officials, put up four traps, and been employing three sets of thermal drone cameras.

The first recorded killing occurred on July 17, 2024, when a one-year-old from the Hardi area’s Sikandarpur village was slain by a wolf attack. Nearly a week later, on July 26, there came news of another man-animal confrontation in which wolves abducted a 3-year-old girl from her home’s courtyard while she slept with her mother. The girl’s partially devoured body was discovered in the neighbouring field the following day.
