This week, a woman in Madhya Pradesh was sexually assaulted on a crowded pavement; the footage of the crime went viral on social media. Pedestrians chose to videotape the sexual assault rather than intervene during the daylight attack.
The victim was a scrap collector from Ujjain who was seduced under the guise of marriage and given drink till she passed out. Then, after bringing her to a roadside shelter, the accused Lokesh raped her. Witnesses recorded the rape and then shared the footage online, all the while the accused ran away from the scene after threatening the woman.
On Wednesday afternoon, a FIR was filed. The suspect was apprehended in a matter of hours and is currently being held in custody. Kotwali CSP Om Prakash Mishra quoted to ANI, “The accused was brought to the police station and questioned, during which Lokesh admitted to committing the crime. The woman was medically examined and after that, Lokesh was presented before the court on Thursday, September 5. According to the order of the court, the person concerned was sent to Bherugarh jail.”
In addition, three or four persons have been arrested by the Ujjain police for recording the rape and posting it online. Mishra said PTI that efforts were being made to apprehend the people, who are presently in various places.
