The much-anticipated box office clash between Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video and Jigra on October 11 has resulted in underwhelming performances for both films. The last two days of Navratri could have contributed to their slow start.
Despite both movies struggling, Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, starring Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri, had an edge from day one, appealing more to mass audiences, while Jigra catered to a niche, multiplex crowd.
Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video opened with Rs 5 crore and collected Rs 18 crore over its first weekend. However, by Monday, its numbers started to dip, earning around Rs 2 crore on both Monday and Tuesday, followed by Rs 1.85 crore on Wednesday. Its total now stands at Rs 25.15 crore, with trade experts predicting a challenging road ahead to reach a Rs 40 crore lifetime total.
Jigra has similarly underperformed, with its current total at Rs 21.10 crore. With no major releases this Friday and two re-releases Khosla Ka Ghosla and Singham Again coming up on October 18, both films may still have a chance to gain from the upcoming weekend.
The impact of Dussehra and Navratri festivities on cinema attendance might give them a boost, but with major releases like Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 slated for November 1, their window for profit is narrowing.
