Imran Khwaja Reappointed as ICC Deputy Chair as Jay Shah Begins Tenure as ICC Chair

Imran Khwaja has been reappointed as the ICC’s deputy chair, continuing a leadership role he has held since 2017. His new tenure will begin on December 1, 2024, aligning with the start of Jay Shah’s term as ICC chair. Khwaja, initially elected to the ICC Board in 2008, has been an influential figure, including his stint as interim chair in 2020 following Shashank Manohar’s term.

Jay Shah, BCCI secretary, recently became the ICC chair unopposed, taking over from Greg Barclay, who served two terms. Shah, 35, is the youngest to lead the ICC and the fifth Indian to hold the prestigious position.

In a significant update, the ICC has revised the tenure limits for its chair and board directors, shifting from three terms of two years each to two terms of three years each. This change aims to allow continuity while ensuring regular transitions in ICC governance.
