Temperatures to Drop Across Bengal This Week

A significant change in weather is expected across West Bengal starting Saturday, with cooler temperatures and foggy mornings becoming more frequent, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Over the next five days, night temperatures in districts along the Ganga river are forecast to drop by 3-4 degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperature in Kolkata has already fallen to 20°C, and further dips to 19°C are expected by Monday night. Daytime temperatures are also slightly below normal at 29.4°C. Other districts like West Purulia recorded 16°C, while Jhargram, Sriniketan, and Panagarh reported 17°C.

Light fog and haze will obscure visibility in Kolkata’s mornings, while areas in Malda, North Dinajpur, and South Dinajpur may experience dense fog. Darjeeling and Kalimpong are likely to see scattered rain on November 17 and 18, adding to the region’s chill.

The current weather shift is attributed to the free passage of the western monsoon, allowing strong winds to blow across the state. Relative humidity levels range from 40% to 93%, contributing to the mild fog.

Despite these cooler conditions, IMD officials state that it is still too early to call this winter. A significant drop in temperatures and a harsh chill are only expected by mid-December.
