The IPL 2025 Mega Auction, set to take place in Jeddah on November 24-25, will see 574 players vying for just 204 available slots, leaving the majority empty-handed. To streamline the process, the BCCI will implement the acceleration process after the 116th player is auctioned.
What is the Acceleration Process?
The acceleration process allows franchises to nominate players from the remaining pool they are interested in. Only these players will be auctioned, while the others will not go under the hammer. This approach ensures time efficiency and focuses on players with actual interest from franchises.
A BCCI communication revealed:
“The first accelerated process will cover all players from 117–574. Franchises must nominate players by 10 PM on November 24. Once these players are presented, unsold players from the full list can be re-nominated for further accelerated bidding.”
Ricky Bhui: The First to Miss Out
Player Ricky Bhui, ranked 117th in the list, will be the first player bypassed as the acceleration process begins. Of the 458 players in the accelerated phase, only 88 are expected to find teams, leaving the rest unsold.
Players Requested for the Auction
Franchises have already submitted names for 39 players across seven countries, including:
- India: Dhruv Kaushik, Tejas Dahiya, Sushant Mishra
- Overseas: Michael Neser (Australia), Will Young (New Zealand), Odean Smith (West Indies)
These players span various roles, from wicketkeepers to fast bowlers, with high demand for all-rounders.
Auction Order
The bidding will start with marquee players in two sets of six, followed by capped players in the following sequence:
- Batters
- All-rounders
- Wicketkeepers
- Fast bowlers
- Spinners
Uncapped players will follow, with the acceleration process concluding the event.
