Delhi’s air pollution: Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena mandates staggered timings for Delhi government and MCD employees

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has mandated staggered office hours for all government workers due to the dangerously high levels of air pollution in the nation’s capital.

The action was taken just hours after Central Secretariat Service (CSS) officers on Monday called for air purifiers in every office building, work-from-home policies and staggered work schedules in order to lessen the negative health effects of the high pollution levels.

The Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), which was put into place to protect public health in the wake of worries about AQI levels in Delhi-NCR, includes staggered working hours. All offices of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and the Government of the NCT of Delhi will follow these revised schedules from now until February 28, 2025.

The Government of NCTD’s offices will be open from 10:00 am to 6:30 pm, while the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s (MCD) offices will be open from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. In a related event, the Supreme Court has directed all states inside the National Capital Region (NCR) to promptly decide on discontinuing physical lessons for all students up to class 12.

Before the next hearing date, the court has also ordered all NCR states to assess and submit the required activities listed in GRAP-4.
