The majority of road travellers naturally choose to use GPS (Global Positioning System) technology to get to their destinations securely. But it brought three people in Uttar Pradesh—two of them were brothers—to a terrible end.
In Faridpur, the GPS-guided vehicle was going from Bareilly to Dataganj in the Badaun district this morning when it went onto a dilapidated bridge and fell into the river that was flowing 50 feet below. As soon as the villagers saw the injured Waggon R, it was removed from the Ramganga river.
By then, all three of them—including two brothers—were dead. The police were notified of the accident by the villagers. “The GPS had not been updated with the fact that the bridge’s front section had collapsed into the river due to flooding earlier this year. Because of the deception, the driver was unaware that the bridge was dangerous,” stated Ashutosh Shivam, the local Circle Officer.
According to the relatives that arrived at the post-mortem residence, the victims were using Google Maps. Because the bridge was left unfinished and there was no barricading to warn oncoming cars, they also held department officials accountable.
The accident was attributed by the family to the administration’s carelessness. In order to prevent similar occurrences in the future, they have also asked the district magistrate to take action against the guilty parties.
“In addition, the absence of safety barriers or warning signs on the under-construction bridge compounded the danger, leading to the fatal accident,” stated Ashutosh Shivam.
Vivek Kumar and Amit from Farrukhabad have been recognised as the two travellers. The third victim’s identity is being sought by the authorities.
