After Juri Ratas handed his resignation, Kaja Kallas became the first ever female Prime Minister of the Baltic nation, making Estonia the only country in the world to have both, a female president and female prime minister at the helm. Kersti Kaljulaid is the first female President since 2016.
During Coronavirus pandemic, infection-rates were lower in female-led countries, including Iceland, Norway, Denmark, and New Zealand. This is by the proactive and coordinated policy responses adopted by the leaders.
The new government is challenged to bring the country out of the pandemic successfully. Kallas stated that Estonia will continue working on key infrastructure projects such as a railway tunnel, Finland to be the new twin city of Talsinki; and a high speed railway- Rail Baltica.
