Alec Baldwin opens up about the Rust movie set shooting tragedy, legal woes, and dismissed charges

Alec Baldwin recently opened up about the tragic on-set shooting that occurred during the filming of Rust, which led to the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and the injury of director Joel Souza. Speaking on David Duchovny’s Fail Better podcast, Baldwin discussed the aftermath of the incident, including the legal battles he faced, such as the involuntary manslaughter charges, and how it impacted his life and career.

Baldwin expressed frustration with the media, claiming that while positive stories about him were being suppressed, negative ones were getting amplified. He hinted that more revelations would come to light in future legal filings, and he seemed determined to uncover the truth about what really happened on set. He said, “I think there’s more to come… it’s now my effort, and it’s going to be undeniably a successful effort to raise and expose what really happened.”

The incident occurred on October 21, 2021, on the set of Rust in New Mexico, when Baldwin fired a prop gun that, unbeknownst to him, contained a live round. Baldwin has consistently denied pulling the trigger, maintaining that it was a tragic accident.

Reflecting on the past three years, Baldwin shared how the situation affected him personally, stating that when people hate you on such a level, they “want three things: They want you to die.” He also noted that, despite the legal hurdles, the charges against him were eventually dropped “without prejudice,” but he was later indicted again. In July, however, Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer dismissed the involuntary manslaughter case against Baldwin, effectively preventing him from being tried for the incident again. Baldwin’s legal team had argued that key evidence was withheld by prosecutors.

The long legal battle has taken a toll on Baldwin, leaving him feeling exhausted. “I’m going to take a break. I don’t want to talk about this for a while. I want to kind of take a nap,” he said. Despite the impact on his career, Baldwin remains hopeful about the future and expressed his readiness to return to work.
