‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ ending, explained: How did Mufasa become the Lion King?

Mufasa: The Lion King serves as a prequel to The Lion King, exploring the backstories of Mufasa and his brother Scar, offering a deeper understanding of their relationship and the origins of their rivalry. The film delves into the history of Mufasa’s rise to power and Scar’s eventual resentment, ultimately setting the stage for the well-known events of the original movie.

Why is Kiros wanting to kill other lions?

The antagonist, Kiros, leads a pride of albino lions who are outcasts due to their physical differences. Believing that all royal bloodlines must be extinguished, Kiros sees Mufasa and his brother Taka (later known as Scar) as obstacles to his rise to power. His goal is to eliminate all feline monarchs, including Mufasa and Taka, and crown himself as the true ruler of the kingdom. Driven by rage and the desire for revenge, Kiros pursues Mufasa and Taka relentlessly, seeing them as threats to his claim to the throne.

What is Milele?

Milele is introduced as a fabled paradise, a lush, bountiful land where every animal lives harmoniously, never goes hungry, and plays an important role in the circle of life. While it initially seems like an idyllic place, Milele is actually the kingdom that Mufasa rules before Scar’s usurpation in The Lion King. It is in this land that Mufasa and Taka’s journey begins, leading them to confront Kiros and his pride.

How did Mufasa become the Lion King?

Mufasa’s rise to the throne begins when he and his companions reach Milele, only to find that Kiros and his pride have followed them there. With no other options, Mufasa decides to fight Kiros and end his threat. Despite his allies’ inability to match Kiros’ strength, Mufasa’s speech about the circle of life inspires all the animals of Milele to join forces against the albino lion and his pride. Following their victory, Mufasa is crowned king. Though he initially hesitates due to his lack of royal bloodline, Rafiki assures him that his bravery, humility, and respect for all creatures make him the ideal ruler. Mufasa accepts his destiny, taking his place as king with Sarabi by his side as his queen.

Why does Scar not like Mufasa?

Scar’s deep-seated resentment toward Mufasa stems from a series of childhood grievances. Mufasa, as the favored son of their mother Eshe, quickly gains the admiration of their father Obasi after saving Eshe’s life. In contrast, Scar is seen as weak and unworthy, unable to hunt and fearful in the face of danger. Scar’s jealousy grows when Mufasa wins Sarabi’s heart, further alienating Scar. Feeling overshadowed by his brother, Scar betrays Mufasa by aiding Kiros. However, after regretting his actions and helping Mufasa in the final battle, Scar earns the scar over his eye, a symbol of his treason. Though Mufasa forgives him, Scar’s betrayal leaves him a pariah, setting the stage for his eventual coup in The Lion King.

This prequel not only deepens the backstory of two beloved characters but also sets up the personal motivations that ultimately lead to the tragic events of the original film.
