Andrew Garfield has revealed his surprising love for Netflix’s reality dating show Too Hot To Handle! In an interview with Magazine, the We Live In Time star confessed his “guilty pleasure” for the wildly popular show and what keeps him hooked. “F—, it’s really good,” Garfield said about the British series, clearly a fan of its over-the-top drama.
The Amazing Spider-Man actor broke down the show’s bizarre premise. Contestants, described by Garfield as “horny, hot people,” are sent to what initially seems like your typical dating show paradise, full of flirtation, hookups, and wild parties. But, as Garfield teased, “this is where the twist happens.”
Once the contestants are comfortable, they’re hit with a curveball: Too Hot To Handle isn’t about romantic free-for-alls. Instead, they’re forbidden from engaging in any physical intimacy, and breaking the rules means deductions from the shared prize pot of money. “Basically, it’s a test of self-control,” Garfield explained. “There’s a prize pot of money, and you only win it if you don’t f— each other.”
And that’s not all—there’s a robot in charge. Yes, Lana, the virtual assistant, runs the show, informing the contestants that they’ve been selected because of their fear of emotional intimacy. Lana adds an extra layer of awkwardness (and hilarity) by fining anyone who gets physical without building a genuine emotional connection.
Garfield also shared one of the most peculiar aspects of the show: Lana’s ability to control what little intimacy is allowed. “The robot tells them, ‘You guys are making a good emotional connection. You have five minutes to, like, tongue each other,’” he said, clearly amused by the concept.
But Garfield isn’t just a fan of Too Hot To Handle. He also gave a shoutout to another British reality show, The Traitors, hosted by Claudia Winkleman. “Claudia Winkleman is the greatest. I don’t know if there’s a better television show that’s ever been made,” he said, cementing his unexpected love for reality TV.
Who knew Andrew Garfield was such a reality TV enthusiast? With his cheeky commentary, he makes Too Hot To Handle sound even more entertaining!
