The growing trend of plastic surgery has become more prevalent, with many celebrities openly discussing their experiences with cosmetic procedures. Reid Ewing, an actor known for his role in Modern Family, has been especially candid about his struggle with plastic surgery addiction.
In a blog post for the Huffington Post, Ewing revealed that he first sought cosmetic surgery at the age of 19, convinced that one procedure would transform him into someone like Brad Pitt. After the surgery, he hid away for two weeks, covering his face with a full facial mask to avoid showing the swelling. When he finally removed the mask, he was shocked to find that the results were far from what he had imagined. His face was swollen, and there was no way to explain it to anyone, so he locked himself away in his Los Angeles apartment until the swelling subsided.
Frustrated and panicking, Ewing went back to his original surgeon, hoping for another procedure to fix the issue. However, the doctor refused to operate again for six months. Determined to fix things sooner, Ewing went to a less qualified surgeon, despite knowing the risks. Unfortunately, the second surgery went wrong, and Ewing found that he could move his chin implant under the skin, shifting it from one side of his face to the other. This led to another procedure to correct it.
Over the next two years, Ewing underwent several more surgeries with different doctors, each one creating new issues that required additional fixes. Eventually, in 2012, Ewing made the decision to stop undergoing surgeries, despite still grappling with insecurities about his appearance.
Reflecting on his experience, Ewing shared his regret, saying, “Plastic surgery is not always a bad thing. It often helps people who need it for serious reasons, but it’s a horrible hobby, and it will eat away at you until you have lost all self-esteem and joy.” He expressed a strong wish that he could go back in time and undo all the surgeries, realizing now that he was fine just the way he was.
