Marvel Studios has a new strategy to follow for its TV shows

Marvel Studios is shifting its strategy for developing TV shows, moving toward a more traditional approach by appointing showrunners to oversee their Disney+ projects. This marks a notable change from their initial strategy, where they didn’t assign showrunners to maintain a close connection between their movies and TV series.

Brad Winderbaum, the Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation at Marvel Studios, shared that the studio is now developing multiple shows at the same time, similar to how traditional TV is produced. This includes writing multiple pilots and creating show bibles before deciding which ones to move forward with. The idea is to have a variety of potential projects ready, allowing for experimentation and preparation for various outcomes.

Winderbaum emphasized that this new method would also provide more room for character development and allow stories to evolve over multiple seasons. This will help the characters stay relevant in pop culture for years to come, enriching the overall Marvel storytelling experience.

The first show under this new model was Agatha: All Along, led by Kathryn Hahn, which officially introduced the role of a showrunner into Marvel’s TV productions.
