Amy Schumer’s comedic skills didn’t exactly do Blake Lively any favors amid the actress’s ongoing legal issues with co-star Justin Baldoni. Lively, who is currently suing Baldoni for sexual harassment and claims he orchestrated a smear campaign to tarnish her reputation, found herself in the crosshairs of Schumer’s humor once again, thanks to a resurfaced parody sketch.
In her comedy series Inside Amy Schumer, the actress-comedian satirized the pressures actresses face during promotional interviews, where they’re expected to be not just polished, but also charming, relatable, and ready to share funny, personal stories. Schumer took this idea and poked fun at Lively’s own talk show appearances, particularly her well-known interview persona. In the sketch, Schumer portrays a character called ‘Amy Lake Blively,’ mimicking Lively’s signature giggles, tight dresses, and stories that often don’t carry much weight.
The scene escalates with Bill Hader playing an interviewer, “Cliffley,” who takes the parody to another level with a series of inappropriate, sexist comments. At one point, he tells Schumer, “Oh my gosh! Wow, Amy, you look stunning!” To which Schumer’s character responds by revealing a little crush on him, prompting Cliffley to dramatically declare, “It’s over!” He then throws off his engagement ring and continues to flirt with the actress, making her blush in the process.
The parody takes place on a fictional talk show, Cliffley Lately, where Schumer is promoting a Baz Luhrmann-style musical remake of Blade Runner. The sketch is a clear critique of the way female celebrities are often treated in interviews, but in Schumer’s unique, over-the-top comedic style, it hilariously highlights the absurd expectations placed on women in Hollywood.
