‘Severance’ star Adam Scott had to insist he wasn’t on drugs

Adam Scott, known for his roles in beloved series like Parks & Recreation and Big Little Lies, recently shared a hilarious behind-the-scenes story from Severance while appearing on Late Night with Seth Meyers. During a particularly intense scene in Season 2, Scott suffered a concussion, which led to an unexpected and ongoing issue—nosebleeds that wouldn’t stop. While it’s a common side effect of such an injury, Scott joked that the constant bleeding made him appear like a stereotypical cocaine user, a link many people might make due to the drug’s association with nosebleeds.

In his attempt to dispel any rumors about drug use, Scott went to comical lengths to prove to his co-stars and the crew that he was not strung out, which, as he pointed out, likely only made them more convinced of the opposite. Eventually, he and his director, Ben Stiller, sought medical help, where a painful procedure finally resolved the issue. Stiller even captured some photos of the procedure, which Meyers gleefully showed off during the interview.

Scott’s lighthearted recounting of the situation underscores the unique blend of humor and absurdity that Severance—a workplace thriller about the soul-crushing nature of office work—brings to its audience. Season 2 of Severance has received universal acclaim, and it’s a show worth catching if you haven’t already. It’s available for streaming on Apple TV+.
