Brody Jenner recently opened up about his complicated relationship with his father, Caitlyn Jenner, during an episode of Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test on January 15. Reflecting on his childhood, Brody shared that his father, whom he referred to by his previous name, Bruce, was largely absent, and he often felt neglected. He recalled writing birthday cards asking, “Why doesn’t dad call me on my birthday?” which highlighted the distance between them at the time.
Brody also touched on how his own experience of fatherhood, after the birth of his daughter Honey in 2023 with fiancée Tiarah, has shifted his perspective. He explained that becoming a father has made him focus on being a better dad, vowing to do the opposite of what his father did for him. Brody emphasized that, unlike his own upbringing, he is determined to be present and active in his daughter’s life.
Brody also shared some raw feelings about his childhood, explaining that while he had a wonderful mother, his father was not around much. Caitlyn’s transition and her public life with Kris Jenner and their children on Keeping Up with the Kardashians created even more emotional distance. Brody admitted that being around during the filming of the show felt invasive and not genuine, making him feel “a little abandoned.”
However, Brody revealed that Caitlyn recently gave him a sincere apology, something he said was the first time in his life. He shared that this apology meant a lot to him, and he expressed relief upon learning that his father’s absence was tied to Caitlyn’s gender identity struggles. Understanding this part of his father’s journey helped Brody make sense of his childhood experiences.
In the emotional confessional, Brody reflected on how becoming a parent has helped him understand the importance of being present for his child and accepting responsibility for how one’s actions affect their family. He vowed to be there for his daughter in a way his father wasn’t for him.
