Reality TV stars Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag have taken legal action against the city of Los Angeles after losing their home to a devastating wildfire. The couple, best known for their roles on The Hills, have joined 20 other plaintiffs in filing a lawsuit in the Los Angeles Superior Court on January 23, 2025, as reported by Entertainment Weekly.
The lawsuit alleges that the city and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) mishandled the region’s water supply, which contributed to the extent of the destruction. Specifically, the complaint claims that the Santa Ynez Reservoir was under repair and “effectively out of commission” when the wildfire tore through the area. As a result, firefighters faced a critical shortage of water needed to combat the blaze, leading to widespread property damage.
One of the key allegations in the lawsuit is that fire hydrants in Pacific Palisades failed because three critical water tanks—each containing one million gallons—were completely drained within 12 hours of the fire’s outbreak. The plaintiffs argue that the city’s water system was poorly designed, leaving it incapable of generating sufficient water pressure to handle an urban fire emergency.
The group, which includes Spencer’s parents, Janet and William Pratt, is seeking an undisclosed amount in damages. Their demands reportedly include compensation for property repair or replacement, lost wages, and reimbursement of legal expenses. Spencer’s sister, Stephanie Pratt, confirmed in a statement to PEOPLE that their parents’ home was also destroyed in the disaster.
Spencer himself took to TikTok to share his personal experience, revealing that his home was among those severely damaged by the Palisades Fire on January 8, 2025. The legal battle now aims to hold the city accountable for what the plaintiffs see as preventable failures in emergency water management.
