The period epic Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal, has had a spectacular opening at the box office. On Saturday, the film’s producers said that the historical action movie made ₹50 crore on its first day at the global box office.
The film was produced by Dinesh Vijan under his Maddock Films brand and directed by Laxman Utekar. The film, which also features Akshaye Khanna and Rashmika Mandanna, opened in theatres on Friday. Chhaava represents the third biographical film for Vicky Kaushal following Sardar Udham and Sam Bahadur.
Vicky plays the part of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of the Maratha empire, in the film. Khanna plays Aurangzeb, while Rashmika portrays Maharani Yesubai, the wife of Sambhaji Maharaj. Vineet Kumar Singh, Ashutosh Rana, and Diana Penty are also part of the cast.
Critics gave Chhaava mixed reviews when it first came out, praising Vicky and Akshaye’s performances but criticising the film’s tempo and screenplay. The movie appears to be headed for a huge opening weekend as it is performing strongly on Saturday as well.
