Anthony Mackie recalled his son’s reaction to the trailer for Captain America: Brave New World

Anthony Mackie might be stepping into the iconic role of Captain America, but his kids couldn’t care less. In a recent interview with People Magazine, the Marvel star shared a hilarious moment about how his 8-year-old son reacted—or rather, didn’t react—to seeing the Captain America: Brave New World trailer in theaters.

Mackie revealed that he had been eagerly waiting for his son’s reaction when the trailer played before a Sonic movie screening. Instead of excitement, all he got was a slow turn, a glance, and then… back to watching Sonic. “My boys are not paying attention,” Mackie laughed. “He slowly turns and looks at me, then he looks back at the screen.”

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier actor, who shares four sons with his ex-wife Shelleta Chapita, admitted that his kids have never once brought up the trailer since. Instead, they’re more focused on their true mission: beating their dad at board games. “They just love me and appreciate me as dad,” he explained. “My work part of it doesn’t really matter.”

While his youngest may not be fazed by his superhero transformation, Mackie cherishes that his children see him as dad first—a role he prioritizes above all. Still, playing Captain America is a milestone he doesn’t take lightly. “This moment means everything,” he said, adding that leading a Marvel film has been a lifelong dream.

Captain America: Brave New World is set to hit theaters on February 14—though whether Mackie’s kids will actually pay attention remains to be seen!
