Drew Barrymore reflects on her onscreen bond with her 50 First Dates co-star Adam Sandler

Drew Barrymore has crowned Adam Sandler as her favorite on-screen kiss, but not for the usual romantic reasons. The two have starred in multiple beloved rom-coms together, but their bond is built on friendship and mutual respect rather than traditional Hollywood-style romance.

During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Barrymore, now 49, reflected on her decades-long collaboration with Sandler, 58. The two have shared the screen in three iconic films:

  • The Wedding Singer (1998)
  • 50 First Dates (2004)
  • Blended (2014)

Despite playing love interests in all three, Barrymore emphasized that their connection is purely platonic. She even noted that Sandler’s wife, Jackie Sandler, is a close friend of hers.

“I love that Adam Sandler and I are so platonic,” Barrymore said. “We never dated; his wife Jackie is my dear friend.”

She added that their partnership on-screen isn’t about hot, steamy chemistry, but rather about portraying something bigger and more meaningful.

“We’re representing true admiration of another person,” she explained.

Their on-screen journey started with The Wedding Singer, where Barrymore’s character falls for Sandler’s wedding singer despite being engaged to someone else. Six years later, they reunited for 50 First Dates, where Sandler played a veterinarian trying to win over Barrymore’s character, who suffers from memory loss. Then, in Blended, the two played single parents brought together by fate, rounding out their trilogy of romantic comedies.

Looking ahead, Barrymore has expressed interest in working with both Sandler and Jennifer Aniston on a new project. Given their chemistry and history, fans would love to see them team up once again!
